WHAT WE DO
WHAT WE DO
The idea for Diaspora Impact was birthed in response to the lopsided distribution of Covid relief and palliatives. After watching helplessly as citizens of countries with poor governance were left with no relief and palliatives despite government ordered covid restrictions, Diaspora Impact Global Network Foundation Inc became incorporated in Canada to galvanize Diaspora communities to collectively intervene in the development and stability of their countries of origin.
DI will help diaspora communities contribute to civic engagement, advocacy, social justice, development and humanitarian response in their countries of origin and countries where they reside through mass organizations/mobilizations, fundraising and production of audiovisuals to help communities share their stories and raise awareness on issues affecting them.
Diasporas contribute huge economic resources to support individuals in their countries of origin unfortunately the economic transfer has not translated to meaningful development. Despite the huge economic contributions of many Diaspora communities, their members feel that they are not well integrated in their countries of residence. DI offers a platform for diasporas to collectively channel their resources towards national development and stability, thereby contributing positively to turning the tide on issues that pushed them in search of greener pastures and safety outside their countries of origin. It will also, provide a platform for members of diaspora communities to actively participate in civic engagement, advocacy, social justice, development and humanitarian response in their countries of residence. This will be achieved through raising awareness, fundraising, transfer of skills, knowledge and talent, active participation in civic engagement, and constructive collaboration with policymakers on national and international policies.
We strongly believe Diasporas should no longer sit back in their countries of residence and serve as a source of remittances to their home countries and passive participants in civic responsibilities and engagements. They should be involved in shaping the policies and politics of their home country to ensure development, stability, wealth creation and distribution. DI will be an informal political action committee and will support the political aspirations of its members both in their countries of origin and countries of residence.
Many humanitarian crises in Africa and Asia do not receive global media attention and response compared to those that happen in Europe and the USA. The shameful hoarding of Covid palliatives from citizens and the lack of social safety nets during the Covid lockdown reflect the need for better management and transfer of aid to developing countries that make up a larger percentage of diasporas. DI will step into the gap and use its collective to raise humanitarian responses to crises in their communities.
